Sanitary Sewer Manhole Inventory Project

Thanks to a funding received through the Lake Superior Coastal Program and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the City was able to fully inventory the manholes located throughout the community. Investigating the manholes, and the sanitary sewer pipes, allows for the City to take note of all manhole conditions and identify areas where the sewer slopes are inadequate. Proper slopes are essential for wastewater to flow properly and prevent solids from accumulating, which can eventually lead to backups and increased maintenance.

This work makes the City more resilient and reinforces existing measures to protect our community and Lake Superior during severe weather events. The City of Beaver Bay completed this project using Federal funds under award NA25NOSX419C0068 from the Coastal Zone Management Act of 1972, as amended, administered by the Office for Coastal Management, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), U.S. Department of Commerce provided to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) for Minnesota’s Lake Superior Coastal Program.

Thank you, Lake Superior Coastal Program and NOAA!
